The New Buttry Center for Peace and Nonviolence

Peace and Nonviolence are areas of historical concern for Central.  It is with much excitement and enthusiasm that Central announces the new BUTTRY CENTER FOR PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE.  In early July, Central announced a new partnership with Sharon and Dan Buttry in working for peace and nonviolence.  But now we want to announce Central is marking the collaboration with Sharon and Dan in a more formal way through the inauguration of the Buttry Center.

This initiative will launch with a special lecture event, April 20-21. At that time Central will share a more robust description of the ways the Buttry Center will impact our academic programs, collaborate with others in the community interested in peace and nonviolence, and reach around the world to continue and to enhance the ministry of the Buttrys.

Sharon Buttry expressed high hopes for this innovative collaboration: “What if every youth and adult leader in the world could be trained in conflict transformation? With today’s technology and Central’s amazing commitment to educate people for peace, this new partnership can reach the world like never before. I am hopeful that ‘the things that make for peace’ will capture the attention of many and make conflict transformative. My dream is that someday people will say, ‘Violence? What was that?’ Praise God for visionary leaders and institutions like International Ministries and Central that make dreams come true!”

On October 12 Dan Buttry was on the Kansas City campus to meet with the DMin students from Myanmar Institute of Theology and community leaders involved in peace and nonviolence initiatives in the Kansas City area.  The Buttry Center hopes to link the global work of Dan and Sharon with local grass root efforts in the Kansas City area.  The Buttry Center seeks to leverage and enhance efforts already involved with peace and nonviolence.

Central is thrilled to be working on bringing peace and nonviolence to even greater focus and access through this collaboration.  President Marshall said, “Central honors the Gospel work of the Buttrys.  We are thankful for their witness and are grateful for the opportunity for further collaboration in the future.”

The cost of educating one student is approximately $10,000 per year. Generous friends like you enable Central to fully underwrite about 30% of this cost for every student. In addition, your support enables Central to award just over $1 Million in scholarship support each year. Over 70% of our students receive a scholarship for at least a portion of their remaining fees each year.  Click the Give Now button below to support Central.
